Taormina was the perfect finale to our Sicilian adventure. Perched high above the Ionian Sea on Sicily’s eastern coast, this picturesque resort town is known for its dramatic coastline and incredible views of Mount Etna. We stayed at Villa Ducale and spent most of our time relaxing by the pool and exploring the city centre, stopping for dinners and drinks.
On our final day in Taormina, we ventured to Mount Etna, about a 45-minute drive from the city. One of the world’s most active volcanoes, Etna is in an almost constant state of activity and has shaped the surrounding landscape for thousands of years. With our guide, we hiked across its rugged volcanic terrain, surrounded by craters, lava fields, and sweeping views of the Sicilian countryside. Standing on the slopes of an active volcano felt almost ethereal, and it was easily one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.
After two weeks of exploring Sicily, Taormina felt like the perfect place to slow down. It was a beautiful ending to an unforgettable journey through Sicily.
